Trio of Detroit Artists Team Up For "Eyes Have It" Exhibition | WDET
Opening on Saturday, August 5 at Birmingham's TYP Collection, "Eyes Have It" will highlight the work of some of Detroit's most compelling young artists via curator Leah Rutt and artists Jade Lauren and Michelle Tanguay. CultureShift talks with the trio of talent ahead of their gallery show.
Curator and arts consultant Leah Rutt explains her thinking behind the project: “Eyes Have It affirms the importance of taking risks and accepting vulnerability. I believe that confronting feelings of self doubt and the fear of failure can provide a creative platform for authentic exploration and development. While the artists Michelle Tanguay and Jade Lauren employ contrasting visual media, their work shares a dialogue that explores the discovery of self worth, mindfulness, expectations, and perception.”
About Jade Lauren
Eyes Have It marks Jade Lauren’s gallery exhibition debut. The collection of large-scale photographs are inspired by classic horror film aesthetic and vintage fashions offering insight into her ongoing discovery of self, sexuality and social expectations.
Jade's collection for Eyes Have It "focuses on the innocence and provocativeness of women. Eyes play this strange role in how we trust and connect with others. As the title suggests, the eyes are truth and the female gaze is a powerful mystery that can be threatening to men and social dominance.”
Jade’s process explores the many ways one can create imagery in camera. She typically shoots 35mm and instant film while working with multiple exposures and manipulating artificial light to craft compelling, impactful photographs.
